What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates which promotes strength and flexibility without bulk. The exercises are performed on a mat or special apparatus that Mr. Pilates created. He created the Reformer, the Wunda Chair, and Cadillac among others. The classes at My Pilates are primarily on the Reformer, which is piece of resistance exercise equipment. It consists of a platform that moves back and forth along a carriage. Resistance is provided by the exerciser's body weight and by springs attached to the carriage and platform. No matter your body type or fitness level, the skills and techniques originally created by Joseph Pilates will give you a complete workout, and improve your strength, flexibility, posture, and range of motion.
